Sky Sports for Living Sport Live, Dunfermline

February 26, 2015

Thanks to the partnership between SportInspired, Sky Sports, Youth Sport Trust, and Fife Active Schools, on Wednesday 25th February local P7s were presented with the fantastic opportunity to take part in a multi-sport festival at Pitreavie Athletics Centre.

On this day, 242 primary school children from 7 different schools took part in a variety of activities. This included 4 different sports, a skills session run by professional athletes Michelle Vidler and Steve Frew, and a Healthy Living session delivered by Sky volunteers. We were also joined by some Sky Sports Young Leaders from Queen Anne High School and some Active Fife Ambassadors from Dunfermline High who acted with confidence and maturity, doing their schools proud.

During the day the children were able to experience locally available sports which included basketball, athletics, rugby, and karate. The aim there is to get them inspired to find one or more sport that they would want to continue playing. They also participated in the Healthy Living session, which gave them insight on eating healthier and how that will positively affect their bodies. The day also gave P7 pupils the chance to meet new friends from other schools before they transition to S1 later in the year.

The winning teams were presented their trophies, one for the Competition Winners and one for the Team Spirit Winners, by Lord Provost Jim Leishman. We were honoured to have him join us and the children were very happy and excited when he stayed behind to sign their medals for them.

Sky Sports Living for Sport ‘Lives’, like this one, are very important for encouraging children to keep active, eat healthy and gain important life skills at a young age that will help them in their future endeavors.

Pete Morgan, teacher from Canmore Primary said, “Excellent day and excellent staff!”

Sheena Stafford from Pitreavie Primary said, “Very pleased overall. Thank you for all your hardwork. Great to see pupils interacting positively with their peers”

Games Manager, Kat Hodge from SportInspired said, “The day at Pitreavie was fantastic from start to finish. The coaches worked really hard and you could see all the children were really enjoying it. A big thank you to everyone involved!”
